I am new to cosmetic science. Can I do this course?
Yes. The course is built for complete beginners. Module 1 starts with skin science, tools and how to calculate a formula, before you make your first product.
Do I need a science background or a lab?
No. Homemakers, students, beauticians, doctors and working professionals learn with us. You formulate in your own kitchen with a hand blender, an induction stove and a small food thermometer.
Are the classes live or pre-recorded?
Pre-recorded, in video and text. You need time to buy raw materials, and if the classes were live you would forget them by the time your materials arrive. Recorded lessons let you watch again exactly when you are making the product. Doubts are answered in the student community.
How long will it take to finish?
There are 122 lessons. Learn at your own pace with lifetime access, and come back to any lesson whenever you need it.
When can I start?
Your login details are emailed within 4 hours of payment. There are no fixed class timings, so you can log in and start whenever you want.
Which device do I need?
Any phone, laptop or PC. The course runs in our e-learning app with your own account.
What language is the course in?
Simple English that anyone can follow.
Do I need to buy materials before starting?
No. Start the lessons first. Supplier details for every raw material are in the course, and you buy them when you are ready.
Do you use ready-made bases?
No. At the Institute of Cosmetic Science we strictly do not use any ready-made soap, cream or shampoo base. Every product is made from raw ingredients, so you know exactly what is inside.
How long do the products last?
Our products have a minimum shelf life of one year. Module 14 teaches pH, preservatives and packing so your products stay safe.
Do I need a licence to sell my products?
For the natural-ingredient products we teach, an MSME certificate is enough to start small. You need GST to sell on Amazon or Flipkart. If you need a COS-8 or CDSCO licence, most people apply through an agency, and we give you the agency details.
When do I get my certificates?
Once you complete at least 10% of the classes. E-certificates are free. Printed certificates are posted to you for ₹300 for printing, packing and shipping, with a free memento.
Can I attend the convocation?
Yes. We hold a convocation twice a year at our academy in Hosur, and every student is invited.
Will I get the lessons as a PDF?
Lessons are given as text lessons in the app instead of downloadable PDFs, because our materials were once printed and sold as e-books without our permission. You can copy the text into your own document for personal reference.
Can I make products for my customers' skin type?
Yes. That is the main reason to learn formulation. You learn what every ingredient does, so you can customise a gel, cream or soap for oily, dry, sensitive or acne-prone skin.
Is this the same as the Sunday webinar?
No. The Sunday webinar is a live introduction. This diploma is the complete course: 14 modules, 50 full formulas, 122 lessons and two diplomas.
